Coaching for Psychotherapists & Interns in Private Practice
Establishing and maintaining a private psychotherapy practice is an ongoing process. Not only do you have to ensure your ongoing development as a clinician, but you also need to be known and findable to potential clients or referral sources.
As people increasingly use the internet to find a therapist, having a website is becoming a necessity. Developing a website or other marketing materials requires you to articulate how you work and why it would be beneficial to potential clients. It also requires getting comfortable putting yourself and what you have to offer out in the world.
These tasks do not come naturally to many psychotherapists and most psychology programs do not provide training in this area. Self-employment can also be isolating.
I offer personal coaching to assist private practice therapists & interns in moving through this process. The structure of the relationship, which provides consistent support and feedback, can alleviate distress, help you focus on the creative aspects of the project and keep you moving towards your goal.
Potential focus areas of coaching sessions include:
•Identifying gifts & talents;
•Articulating how you work and what makes it uniquely yours;
•Clarifying what you really want to do and envisioning how it could be useful to potential clients;
•Articulating what clients will get from working with you;
•Learning to write from a more embodied place that is resonant with who you are as a person and as a therapist;
•Working through writer’s block;
•Receiving feedback about your writing;
•Developing strategies & practices to deal with self-limiting beliefs that stop you from putting yourself & what you have to offer out in the world.
In addition to my experience as a private practice psychotherapist, I have extensive writing and editing experience from my years as an attorney. I also wrote both clinically and creatively in graduate school.
